Yet another pic dump

Here we go again with a pic dump:

I got the khorne side of the small starter completed:

I also grabbed the slaughterpriest off the new WD. The mag itself didn't really do anything for me, but the model's nice.

He's huge though, something like 40 mm to his eyes I think. GW's deffo left 28mm scale behind, or this guy has been eating growth hormones like there's no tomorrow.

PanO got a drone, too:

Aaaaand done.

Right, another post.

This'll likely just be a picture dump, so here we go:

Bam. I'm rather enjoying the loaded brush technique I'm using on the skin here. Might start using it other places too.

Inq28 returns

Hello everybody who reads this ( assuming anyone actually does so). :P

Update time, this time with Inq28. I've wanted to finish off some old projects lately, so I figured these would be a good place to start.
I just needed the inquisitor/witch hunter himself done:

And with him done, the gang is more or less ready, bar the red-coated PDF officer I can't seem to find, and the rebasing on the fanatic with lasrifle in the back:

Now I just need to find someone to play with, but there's mutterings of Inq at the club...

I also had Archaeon lying about, and have gotten a bit further with him:

Obviously still quite WIP, but he's getting closer and he's fun to paint. He's a proper beast too, the model is MASSIVE.

Lastly, the Order Sergeant sniper continues to bug me. I've dropped him, worn paint off, mis-glued his arm, and scraped paint off more times that I care to recall, so now he's just getting a quick paintjob and some varnish. I really have lost my patience with him, which is a shame since it's a nice little model.

From Norway this time

It's been a while but I've finally gotten off my behind and taken more pics.

The DE Executioners are finally entirely done:

I'm quite pleased with these, though I've accidentally used two different purples on them. It's less visible in person, so I'm not too fussed.
They've got to be one of my favorite classical units from Fantasy, the sculpts are really well done.

In the far (and shiny) future, De Fersen has been completed:

The folds in his tabard are somewhat darker IRL, it's the lighting setup I've got that messes with that.

Again, I'm happy with how he turned out. I was unsure about the red/blue balance, and if he'd look out of place in a PanO force that's mainly blue like mine, but I think he works.

I've started work on one of his buddies as well:
This guy, however, has been a mess from the get-go. I've rubbed off paint, had it splatter, dropped him and the rifle-arm kept slipping off because the superglue would. not. harden.

I'll be happy if he just turns out ok at this rate.

And finally something I started because I wanted to practise my blacks:

It's the old Archaeon LE model, and he's a right beast. Really look forward to getting a completed paintjob on him.

An update from Sweden, for the last time

I'm on my last week of work-related courses in Sweden, and brought some pictures with me so I could post the weekends work from here.

I've completed the unit of Shades for ninth I got from Maelstrom a while back, and these old models were surprisingly fun to paint:

More DE will come, hopefully soonish. The tabards and coats have turned out blue in the pic however, they're quite a bit more purple in colour.

I also got a bit further with my ongoing quest to reduce the infinity stockpile, as De Fersen got closer to being finished:
with only the sword, freehand and basework to do now,

And an Ariadnan Marauder who got painted up real quick:

I'm quite pleased with the result on the Marauder, the Ariadna scheme I've found lends itself well to speedpainting I find.

More epic and infinity

Been busy lately as always, but I've gotten a bit done nonetheless.

I finished building a scratchbuilt Sicaran (because the model is great, but I've neither the room nor use for a 28mm version), and got a mould made.

The first cast turned out poorly, with the lower part of one track unit missing, so I made a quick objective:

Eventually, I plan to have 2 armoured units of 4, then grab some marine proxies somewhere that can be converted to look like 30k marines, and play some heresy.

Infinity remains the biggest draw, however!

I've just taken part in my first tourney, and it was FUN. Met some great people (who beat me senseless for the most part), and had a blast.

I wound up playing Ariadna as I didn't want to play with unpainted models, but the PanO lure was strong - my aim is to get a tourney capable list up and running soonish.
To this end, I've painted a bit:

Anonymous Order Sgt no 34812902. Gives an order, occasionally deploys with TO camo in the midfield.

Bulleteer Armbot with spitfire, still heavily WiP. Fun little model, but I'm really struggling with the blue for some reason.

And finally:

Everyones favorite former Templar, Gabriele de Fersen. FUN model to paint. Really fun.

'till next,
/Rasmus

Spectre, Infinity and Epic - distractions ahoy!

Been a while, I'm rubbish at updating this, but I suppose that's expected by now.
Work's been taking up a lot of time lately, plus other stuff, that's my excuse for now.
Believe it or not, most of the stuff here has been done over the last weeks.

I've gotten a small amount done though. Lately, I've been trying to push myself to paint faster and give up a bit of quality to get the model done faster.

Last week I had a game night with a couple of friends (that got cancelled, sadly), and I painted up some of the Spectre miniatures SAS forward observers from their kickstarter I got with a mate ages ago, as well as Hasslefree's Donnie, who'll be an arms dealer or secret agent of some sort once we get the game in sometime.

I've said it before: I've never painted a HF mini that wasn't brilliant to work with. More than anything else, Kev White manages to make his models FUN to paint, consistently, which is incredibly impressive.
The Spectre SAS fellows were cool too, no complaints there.
Hopefully we can get the game in soonish!

I did a couple of Infinity intro games saturday as the gaming club where I play held a mini-convention. Was good fun, and it gave me the impetus to paint the first of 5 Knight Magisters for an eventual nasty little HI link.

Of course, whenever I played against PanO during the intro games, he turned into a regular little murdermachine who diced and sliced his way through anything thrown his way, but it was all in good fun, and I think we might have a new player or two.

I also got to try out Dystopian Wars, and I think I might have to get a fleet. It's a VERY cool little system, and the universe is, for once, steampunk/gearpunk done WELL.

I've been dabbling in smaller scales a bit as well, since the club is hosting a friendly little 1500 points Epic tourney late next month. Naturally, I couldn't resist.

So far I've gotten this done:
A Tactical detachment with command stand, a Devastator detachment and a dread for support

Rhinos for the marines, 2 Vindicators, soon to be 4, and 2 converted Hunters for AA support

Finally, a couple of Thunderbolts with bases to come.

I've no idea how good the list I'm working towards is, but I've got a test game next week where I'll try it out.

It's basically this:

  • Tactical detachment
    • Supreme Commander
    • Dreadnought
  • Devastator detachment
    • Hunter
  • Vindicator detachment
  • Predator detachment
    • Hunter
  • Thunderbolts
And it comes to 1475 points. I still need to do 6 vehicles and properly base the thunderbolts, but this should be doable by next week, even if I'm in Occupied East Denmark Sweden this week for a work course.

One of the reasons I fell for the temptation was that Epic will let me do scratchbuilding again, which I've missed something fierce. The sleek, hexagonal future of Infinity is wonderful and a great setting, but unless you've got access to a sculpting programme and a 3d printer, it's hard to build fitting vehicles. Not so with 40k, where you can basically get away with making a box on tracks, riveting it to kingdom come and smacking a few skulls on it, and it'll fit in.

Case in point, the Taurox. I bloody hate that model, but I digress. Plasticard and GS:

(Not pictured: Swearing. Loads of it, but somehow it was fun anyhow)

I like the Sicaran though, so it got to be my first Epic scratchbuild. There's a little bit of work remaining on the turret, mainly closing some gaps to ensure the mould will last a bit longer, and the front of the hull needs a bit of love, but other than that she's soon ready for the mouldmaking process. Then, I'll cast up a couple, make a 4 tank detachment that I can use if I find an opponent who'll play against an Epic list.
The tracks are separate, to let me do a Venator hull at some point. Sexy tank too, that.

Also, the B&W photography is a trick I've stolen from Tinners, who used to do some of the best scratchbuilds I've ever laid eyes on over on the Ammobunker back in the day. Helps focus on the model, once you take away all the different colours. Plus, it looks kinda pro. Credit where it's due and all.

I've got a couple of Rhino hulls on the go as well, it's good to be back to the plastic glue fumes.

Knight of the Holy Sepulchre and assorted stuff

It's been a while, but I did get that job. Been kicking me arse lately, but it's fun and I like the people, so all's good. Currently I'm in Sweden for a job-related course, but I grabbed some pics before I went so I could update - it's about time.

There's not much to say about this chap, I'm happy he's done despite him being really fun to paint.

He's already disappointed me in his first game, even! He's fun though.

After getting him done I wanted to clear out the painting queue a bit, so I went for some of the half-finished stuff I had lying about. I wanted to paint some DE, but the ones I was stripping wasn't done and I couldn't clear the paint from them.

2 Loup-Garous and a Kempeitai made for a decent distraction while the DE soaked a bit longer in the alcohol:

I've had the female paratrooper lying about, based and undercoated, for ages, but sadly I couldn't get her done before I had to pack my stuff and head out the door for Sweden.

Decent progress though, better than white undercoat for sure. Hopefully I'll have an update ready soonish - I'm coming home tomorrow, but I leave for Vienna over easter.

Konstantinos and some Dark Elf testers

Evening all,

Life's been busy lately, and there hasn't been quite as much progress as I'd like on the hobby front. There's a decent reason for this however, as I've gotten a job and I've needed to take care of some stuff before I start tomorrow.
I was really hoping to have both the knights I've worked on lately done by now, but sadly it didn't work out. The Knight of the Holy Sepulchre has been difficult to work on, even if he is a joy to paint, and I've been less than willing to lower the paint standard to get him done.

Less so on Konstantinos, though. I'd like to get some freehand in on those shoulders, but for now, he'll do. Click for a bigger version.

I'm quite happy with him, but there's areas I'd like to have done better, in particular the sword. There's quite a noticable bend on it, but it's not something I can bend back I think - as far as I can see, there's a slight bit of damage there from when I cleaned him.

Still, as a high quality test piece for the KotHS, he's pretty nice I think. I got a lot better at painting leather and white while doing him, and that'll come in handy I think. The practice on white already has. Hopefully next update will be able to cover some progress with the KotHS.

Last update detailed the generosity of Maelstrom, and I've started on the Dark Elves. I've redone my list as I made some mistakes last, and I've decided on a block of 14 corsairs with a captain, a captain with a banner, 10 crossbowmen, 5  shades and 5 dark raiders as the starting 600 points. Once I find my list I might post it.

Proof I'm working on the corsairs:

I hope to keep more or less this standard throughout the unit, though there's bound to be some quality slippage once I crank up the speed. And to prove that I am actually able to work in batches:

(I'm working on the legs too, but they're pretty boring ATM and I couldn't be bothered to photo them yet. )

Dark Elf invasion

It's time for a brief (hah!) intermission from Infinity.

Recently some friends and I have been talking about starting a ninth age campaign. Originally, I was going to go with my old Warriors of Chaos. A while back though, Maelstrom sent me a Christmas package, including some DE Corsairs, Witch Elves and assorted bits.

When he heard about this, being generous as he is, he insisted on sending me, well, pretty much all of his old DE army.

You're looking at roughly 20 Corsairs, 40 Spearmen, 20-something Repeater Crossbows, 2 Repeater Bolt Throwers, 8 Shades, a command group of Witch Elves, 5 Furies, a Hydra with handlers, a Cold One Chariot, 8 converted/WiP Dark Riders, plus a heap of characters, including the old Malekith on Dragon. Not to mention the bits, bases and movement trays.

It goes without saying that I owe Si massively for this - I'll have to find a way to repay him, but so far he's been refusing payment of any kind.

I tried for individual pictures but my camera is awful at photographing larger groups of models, so that'll have to happen as I touch up the units before fielding them. You'll have to make do with grainy pics of the core troops and the characters.

Also in there is a small purchase I made while the models were making their way to Denmark - a bunch of the old metal Executioners, some oooold Dark Riders, and a Sorceress on Cold One.

Again, thanks mate. I've said it a couple of times at this point, but I owe you a solid for sure.

I've got another week to get started on these, as I start my new job February first and I'll have plenty to do then! I'll also be trying to finish the Knights as well - I need them for the escalation league I'm running!

Further progress on the Knight and his buddy

Tiny update here, as I've had a few hours to slap paint on these two.

There's also a new project coming, but I think I'll wait a few days until it's a bit further along to grab some pics.

Konstantinos first, since he's effectively the tester for the Sepulchre knight. I've hugely enjoyed being able to test out recipes and so forth on this guy and then apply them immediately to the Knight afterwards, it's worked well painting wise and kept them from being boring. I think I'll try that again on the next models I do.

His upper body is sorta done-ish with a few exceptions, such as the sword (the red'll get worn off during painting if I do it now, so it's the last thing I'll do before varnishing him) and the lights on the back piece. I'll be gluing his arm on shortly, I just wanted to take the opportunity to photo him and see if there's anything missing first.

Now, the knight might seem like he's been neglected, but that's only because it's not apparent how much time has been spent on that cape.
I've spent about 1½ hours on that little bit of the cape under his sword, and I still need to tweak the deepest shadows. Painting purple is a nightmare, but somehow I'm having tremendous fun with it. I'll admit I'm worried about freehanding the KotHS symbol on the chest piece though, I think that turned out well and I'd hate to have redo it.

As always, if you spot anything that could be better, please leave a comment. :)

Infinity WiPs

Since Maelstrom keeps nagging me, I've got a couple of WiPs to post.

I've been plugging along on the Sepulchre Knight, trying to keep up a decent standard.

Painting black on his coat has so far been rather annoying, so I think I'll go back over it afterwards.

I'm trying something new to keep a decent level on this guy. I've got Konstantinos going at the same time, so I can test out paint techniques and such on him:

More to come - I think I might actually have some time to work on them tonight! Plus, there might be something GW coming...
